I'm back to show you another set I got from JMBricklayer's wide selection of Mecha style Robots.  Today we will be looking at the Sakki Mecha Warrior set number 70132 which JMBricklayer has provided for this review.

Unboxing

As always, JMBricklayer ships all of their building block sets in sturdy cardboard boxes.

For this Sakki Mecha Warrior set, the 1300+ pieces are distributed over 5 large bags, all numbered to match the build stages in the instruction manual.


Here's what else you can find in the box:  The 35 page instruction booklet, a collectors card, a large sticker sheet, and even a bonus gift, a pair of finger socks!

You'll want to get these finger socks because inside the little package is a special discount code to use on the JMBricklayer website.

Here's what the stickers look like.

The large bags numbered 1 thru 5 contain smaller parts bags mixed in with with other parts.  Here's an example of what's inside bag #1 which has 5 smaller bags of parts.

I found this very unique looking brick separator tool in bag #1.  I've never seen this design before.

For stage 1, we are building the display stand for the mecha warrior robot.  And it's probably one of the nicest stands I've seen before.  The transparent column will attach to the mecha which we will see later.

Here's the display placard for the mecha robot called Sakki.

We also have built part of the torso before we move on to stage 2 of the assembly.

Opening large bag #2 we find 5 smaller parts bags and some brick plates.

I found some very cool printed parts in bag 2.

And it assembles what looks to be a power supply module.  Although not really chromed, the silver pieces are super shiny.  And there's a lot of silver parts in this set.

We add this lime green utility belt to the torso before proceeding to stage 3.

There are 4 smaller bags in large bag #3.

So if you are building this set, I strongly recommend you do it in a brightly lit room.  And if you have a magnifying glass, even better.  Because the pictures from the instructions are really small and jam packed into each page.  I wish they would have spaced the instructions out better.

Also, you will find that this set is particularly challenging in that the colour distinction is not clear.  In the above example, there are pieces that are gray, pieces that are black and pieces that are silver, but they all kind of look like the same colour.  I had to redo a number of steps because I mistakenly used similar parts of the wrong colour.

I had trouble with steps 3-3 thru 3-6 because the instructions  are a bit vague.  Messing up these steps will also mess up steps 3-16, 3-22, 3-28, and 3-30,  as I encountered.  


Once you get it right, the mecha robot's head will come together as above.

Large bag #4 yields six more smaller parts bags.

Stage 4 complete.

I've attached the head and the legs to the body, and the body to the display stand.  The leg and ankle joints don't have enough friction on their own for the mecha to stand independently, I found.   

Finally, 5 smaller bags in large bag #5.  If you've been keeping track so far, we had a total of 25 smaller bags in the set.


Arms and hands done, along with two large swords.

The mecha warrior Sakki is complete.  At least the shoulder, arm and hand joints have a bit more friction, so I can pose the robot.

Final Thoughts


The JMBricklayer Mecha Warrior Sakki 70132 is a cool set if you like to have unique mecha robots in your collection.   While the instructions can be a tad challenging, the completed building block set displays really well.  The finish of the brick parts was very good however, I felt that the friction of the ball joint pieces could have been improved.  Despite that, I could still pose the arms the way I wanted as you can see from the above pictures.  Even though I didn't use the provided sticker sheet there were plenty of printed parts that enhanced the look of the Sakki mecha.   I will give it a rating of 3.7 out of 5.
